When it comes to entertaining, even the food can echo the holiday theme.  Executive Chef Andrew Pantano of Culinary Creations in Hillsborough likes to serve Italian torta as a side dish because  its red-and-green layers resemble a Christmas cake.  The torta is made of focaccia bread and mascarpone and cream cheeses, fresh basil pesto and sun-dried tomatoes. 

     Pantano is famous for his Winter Wonderland parties, which incorporate smoke machines, mirrors and dried ice. For a scaled-down version, people can line their table with mirrors, which reflect not only the food, but also the chandelier.
